SUB AQUA SUCCESS

The RNLI at Trearrdur have received a welcome boost after a fund-raising day by the Abraham Moss Sub Aqua Club, based in North Manchester, raised £1700.

20 AMSAC members took part in a sponsored dive on the wreck of the Missouri.  The intention was to accumulate 50 hours of continuous diving, in relay, to celebrate the British Sub Aqua Club’s 50th anniversary.

The club boats ‘Below Zero’ and ‘Rib Rachel’ were launched shortly after 6am from Trearrdur Bay and stayed at sea for the duration of the exercise – providing safety cover and ferrying divers to and from Porth Dafarch        Bay.

Breathing air was generously supplied free of charge by Mike McGee of Diving Services Anglesey.

The 5 teams of 4 divers accumulated 52 hours and 41 minutes of dive time in conditions described as ‘near perfect’.

Club Diving Officer Jeff Hickman said “Our rigorous club training practices have culminated in the successful execution of a well prepared and lengthy dive plan, without incident”.

Events Organiser Andy Turner said “I think we all demonstrated what can be achieved by willingness and determination.  The money raised is testimony to the tremendous efforts of everyone who participated”.

AMSAC are regular visitors to the shores of Trearrdur and it is appropriate that the local RNLI should benefit from this event.
